Largest solar power plant in Bangladesh

Situated in Gaibandha's Sundarganj Upazila, Bangladesh, the Teesta Solar Limited power plant serves as a noteworthy exemplar of renewable energy advancement, having seamlessly integrated into the national grid since December. Earning distinction as one of Asia's largest solar power facilities, this plant spans 650 acres within the Anabadi Char region. Ownership falls under Beximco Power Limited, a subsidiary of the Beximco Group.

Initiating construction in 2017, the Teesta Solar Limited power plant envelops Teesta Par's Latshala area. A striking array of 550,000 solar panels adorns the plant, efficiently harnessing solar energy. To ensure optimal distribution of the harvested electricity, an extensive 35 km power transmission line, encompassing 122 towers with a voltage of 132 kilo volts, was meticulously erected. This transmission network spans from Teesta Par in Sundarganj to Rangpur. Further bolstering the system, substations and essential equipment, including inverters, were strategically established to facilitate efficient power dissemination.

Environmental considerations played a pivotal role throughout the plant's construction, evident through the implementation of protective measures against natural calamities like floods and river erosion. The construction of a dam and a seven-kilometer road has been instrumental in safeguarding the facility and facilitating local movement, thereby extending benefits to the surrounding population.

The Teesta Solar Limited power plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, emblematic of the government's unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents in the northern region. This endeavor harmonizes seamlessly with governmental objectives to combat global warming and champion environmental preservation.

Since its connection to the national grid in December, the generated electricity has contributed a substantial 200 megawatts of daily power supply, significantly bolstering the region's energy capacity and reducing dependence on energy imports.

Shayan F Rahman, Chairman of Beximco Power Limited, emphatically underlined the company's resolute dedication to renewable energy pursuits, aligning them seamlessly with the government's visionary plans. He underscored the pivotal importance of the renewable energy sector in meeting future energy demands and proudly emphasized Beximco's pioneering role across various sectors.

The Teesta Solar Limited power plant project was entirely financed by Beximco Power Limited, marking a milestone with the issuance of the country's inaugural sukuk bond. The project's overall cost reached approximately $300 million. Shayan F. Rahman conveyed the company's intent to establish more solar power plants in accordance with the government's development roadmap.

In a nutshell, the Teesta Solar Limited power plant stands as a remarkable renewable energy initiative in Bangladesh, actively contributing to the nation's endeavor to augment electricity supply, attain developmental aspirations, and curtail energy imports. Its successful execution undeniably underscores the potential of solar power generation to safeguard the environment and propagate sustainable energy sources
